Extraordinary Experiences
MatchUp’s journey began as students navigated the aftershocks of the COVID-19 pandemic. The emotional toll and isolation were felt everywhere, but no more than in young students making the transition to post secondary education.
Our university subreddit, was filled with posts reflecting the struggle to connect, make friends, and maintain a sense of community. That’s when we decided to leverage our unique skills and experiences to take on this challenge head first and respond to this universal cry for connection.
Undertaking a comprehensive surveys and interviews with hundreds of students, we found that three out of four were struggling to meet people and make friends. This was the breaking point that inspired MatchUp. Our goal was not merely to revolutionize sports registrations but also to foster meaningful connections and build a communities centred around shared love for sports.
